DIY Gem Cabinet Knob

Outside of jewelry making, there are many ways to use gemstones to beautify the environment around you. How about some DIY gem cabinet knobs? Not only are they pretty to look at but they also serve a function around your home. Here is a project in 3 simple steps. And the best part is you don’t need any special equipment or metal-smithing skills!

You’ll need:

  • Rough gemstone with flat back. Size: 1 to 2 inches
  • Gold or silver paint
  • 2-part epoxy
  • 2 paint brushes
  • Knob hardware (we got ours at Ikea)

Step one: Paint the bottom and edge of the gem with gold or silver paint. Let dry.

Step two: Use a 2-part epoxy and paint over the metallic ‘bezel’ you’ve made with the gold/silver paint.

Step three: Quickly afix the knob hardware to the center. Let dry.
