LONDON CRAFT WEEK is a new annual event which showcases exceptional craftsmanship through a journey-of-discovery program featuring hidden workshops, celebrated makers, other lesser known makers and highly specialized skills alongside famous shops, galleries and luxury brands.
Clockwise: Vicki Ambery-Smith, Jo Thorne, Ruth Tomlinson
Founded on the ethos of making, LONDON CRAFT WEEK aims to introduce the talent, people and techniques behind beautifully made things to a wider audience. They will be able to experience craft not just as static branded objects in smart shops but understand the context of how they were made, why they are special and even have a try themselves.
Clockwise: Ruth Tomlinson, Ndidi Ekubia, Rauni Higson
Ranging from textiles; ceramics; woodworking; jewelry; millinery; glass; metal; leather to shoemaking, the makers included in this program are carefully curated and at the forefront of their craft.
The jewelers and metalsmiths included this year are:
- Jessica Poole
- Jo Thorne
- Jacqueline Cullen
- Katrin Spranger
- Miranda McCarthy
- Ndidi Ekubia
- Ruth Tomlinson
- Rauni Higson
- Tony Power
- Vicki Ambery-Smith
- John Creed
- Angela Cork
What a wonderful concept – well done London! Wouldn’t it be great if every city had a craft week? I would especially love to see this happening in places steeped in crafts/maker traditions like Istanbul or Jaipur but then again I think it would be fantastic in super cosmopolitan Paris, Tokyo or Singapore!
